Welcome Back!

I hope everyone had and enjoyable, relaxing break.  Now we're in the home-stretch to the end of the year, it is amazing how quickly it has gone!

We've been learning about personification and hyperboles through our reading and poetry.  The first graders enjoyed thinking of examples of hyperboles they've heard in real life like, "I'm as fast as lightning!" and "I'm so full my stomach could BURST!"

In math we're reviewing everything we've learned so far this year. Our main focus will be on time, money and place value.  We have improved our basic math skills *so* much this year.  I am really proud of all of the first graders and their dedication to Xtramath and their fast math worksheets.

We will begin our science unit on chicks as soon as our eggs arrive this week.  It is an exciting time in our classroom!

We are collecting hearty soups for the Colchester Food Shelf if you'd like to send some in!

We have lots of pictures to catch up on, so... enjoy!

Hats! (Updated)

Hi everyone! Our class is standing on the right-hand side if you're facing the stage! Enter the first set of auditorium doors and choose your seat!

HATS!

Our performance of HATS!  is tonight!  Please arrive at Colchester High School at 6:15pm.  Your child should meet me in the cafeteria and you can find your seats.  At the end of the performance, please pick your child up in the cafeteria and make sure you let me know that you're taking them.

If your child wore a hat to school today, I will have their hat at the high school school waiting for them.  If they did not, please send them in a hat for the performance.  In fact, it would be AWESOME if EVERYONE who is coming with you tonight wore a hat, the more the better!  We would love to have parents, grandparents, siblings, cousins and friends all in hats!

Here is a sneak peek of what you're going to see tonight- the students are amazing!

Hard at Work

The first graders have been working so hard this week- in everything!  Whenever they are proud of their work, they like to take a picture of it.  We have first graders who have been writing poems, stories and word walls.  We are smitten with our successes!

Spring!

It's nice to finally have some spring weather!  We will be performing the musical Hats! on Thursday evening at Colchester High School.  We are looking forward to this very much and have been practicing for weeks.  Your child should wear a hat to the performance; any hat will do!

We will not have homework Thursday night due to the performance so there are only 3 math worksheets going home this week.  Additionally, there will not be Ready, Set, Run this week either due to the musical.

Check out this awesome post from our district blog about our new running program:

Ready, Set, Run at PPS

We started reading Farmer Boy by Laura Ingals Wilder today and the first graders are loving it!  They cannot believe that a 9 year old boy had to walk a mile and a half to school each day!  We are looking forward to learning more about the Wilder family as we read.

4 Winds

We had an awesome 4-Winds today thanks to Mrs. Puttlitz!  We learned all about squirrels.  We even got to experience squirrel pelts (the fur and skin from a squirrel), and animal skulls.

Tomorrow is our 3rd Poetry Cafe!  If you're able, please join us at 1:45 in our classroom to share poems with us.
