One Hundred One, One Hundred Two...

We were very nervous for our last jumping day because on Monday, when Mr. Shepherd heard that I had jumped 300 jumps, he jumped 300 AND ONE. We couldn't believe it!

Today was our last day to jump!  We walked down to P.E. and Mr. Pecor gave us the news... Mr. Shepherd's class was beating us by only 78 jumps!  We KNEW we could get 78 extra jumps today,  (Or at least we thought we could!) but Mr. Shepherd has P.E. AFTER us, so we really had to focus!

Trinity assumed her spot as twirler across from Mr. Pecor and I hopped inbetween them.  They swung, and I jumped.

And I jumped.

And I jumped.

And I jumped...

and Miss LaRose came to check how we were doing.

And I jumped...

and Nurse Mary came to check how we were doing...

and I jumped...

and Mr. Gaudette came to see how we were doing....

And I jumped...

And Ms. Millham came to check how we were doing...

and I JUMPED and Trinity twirled.

I jumped until I was pretty sure Mr. Shepherd wouldn't catch us!

800 jumps later, we were CELEBRATING!

We finished with 3,022 jumps as a class!  We are SO impressive!  We don't yet know how every class did, but Mr. Shepherd (only...) got 400 jumps today, so WE BEAT THAT!
It has been a REALLY fun week of jumping!

(Another!) Indoor Recess and ee, ea, ie, ey, y

We had indoor recess again today due to FREEZING temperatures.  We went on computers, played with blocks, and I was fortunate enough to catch these moments on video:

We learned new spellings for long "e" today as well.  We brainstormed some, and then we read with purpose to find them in our own books.  We realized there were a lot of irregulars too!  We have so much fun when we realize that spelling patterns don't follow the rule!

If you haven't yet signed up for a parent/teacher conference please do so by visiting the PPS website.

Breaking News

As we were walking to P.E. today to jump, we received alarming news.  Mr. Allbee had jumped TWO HUNDRED jumps earlier in the day.  The first graders were shocked; I was nervous- the pressure was on!

Trinity took over twirling duties with Mr. Pecor and I started jumping...

300 JUMPS LATER, the first graders were ready to continue the count! We are SO excited and have one more jumping day on Wednesday! Way to go first graders and especially Trinity for that dedicated twirling!

School-Wide Morning Meeting

We were very excited to read our Pax-It Notes at School Wide Morning Meeting.  Check out the video!

Spreading Positive Pax

Thank you so much to everyone who helped make our Valentine's Day celebration a success! From sweet cards to delicious treats, we really had a fabulous day.

Perhaps the BEST part of our day was hosting school-wide morning meeting this morning.  We each read a Pax-It Note to someone we "caught" spreading positivity in the past week.  It was so much fun to share all of the great things we've seen at Porters Point School with all of our friends.

After assembly, we delivered our Pax-It Notes so we could shake hands with the person who earned it.  That was a REALLY fun part of our day.  Every time we walked in the hallway, people told us how much they enjoyed hearing what we'd noticed and that THEY were starting to pay attention to people's positive behavior too!  We were so excited to share Pax with our school.

We do have a video of our presentation today, but it isn't ready yet... stay tuned and have a fabulous Valentine's Day weekend!

Tonight Is the Night!

We headed first thing this morning for rehearsal at CHS!  Rehearsal was awesome!  You are going to love the show this evening!  A few reminders:  please send your child in comfy clothing and sneakers; please remind your child that we see (and hear!) everything they do and say on stage... even when someone else is talking or moving.  We are practicing to sit still and be respectful listeners; pleave have your child in the cafeteria for 6:15 pm and then go find your own seats.  We are on the left side of the stage (when facing it), you might want to sit on the right hand side of the theater when choosing seats.  I was in the front row today (and will be tonight) and I had a hard time seeing everything due to the angle- for an optimal viewing experience I suggest finding seats in the middle third of the theater or at least 5 rows up!

You can pick your child up in the cafeteria immediately after the show.  We are the second class off of the risers, so you should be able to find us quickly!

Too Much Noise and a Jumping Update

Tomorrow (Thursday) we are heading to CHS for our dress rehearsal of Too Much Noise!  We have our headpieces ready and we're excited to travel to the high school to practice.  Please have your child arrive to the high school by 6:15 tomorrow evening.  You can drop them in the cafeteria to me, and then go choose your seats.  I believe we're on the left side of the stage (when facing it) so you might want to choose a seat on the right side of the theater (when facing the stage).  I will send an email tomorrow to let you know for sure.  Please have your child dress in comfortable clothes and sneakers for the performance.

Today in math, we learned how to make attribute trains.  Our challenge was to make a 20 piece attribute train.  It took a lot of problem solving, but we were finally able to show only 1 difference (shape, size, color OR thickness) between each shape.  WOW!

Today was our first day of competitve jump-roping as well.  We were all ready to go in great comfortable clothes and shoes for jumping.  We warmed up in the classroom and walked down the hallway blasting the theme from Rocky.  We were fierce competitors and worked together to achieve a GREAT number.  Sadly, the jump rope got tangled in my feet at One hundred FIVE jumps, so Mr. Shepherd is still the jumping champion.  (For now.)

We are very excited to read our Pax-It Notes to the entire school on Friday morning.

A-e, AI, AY

We are learning about silent "e" in SWR this week and today we learned all about the spellings for long a.  We brainstormed lists and sorted words based on their long "a" spelling.  We learned that a__e, ai and ay can all say, "a".

In math we have started learning about 2-d and 3-d shapes.  Today, we learned two new shape games to play.

100th Day Celebration(s)

Wow! The 100th day of school was today!  We celebrated the 100th day of school with many fun activities that were very different from our regular activities.  We had so much fun and counted to 100 so many times!

Remember to wear red on Friday to celebrate healthy hearts!

Heart Healthy Month

February is Healthy Heart Awareness month which we're celebrating at PPS in two ways.  The adults in the building are raising awareness about healthy hearts through Go Red for Women by wearing red this Friday (Send your child in red if you want to!) and getting their blood pressure checked by Nurse Mary.  The students are celebrating healthy hearts by participating in Jump Rope for Heart with Mr. Pecor in P.E.

The classes at PPS have always had a friendly competition to see which class (and individual student) could jump the most jumps.  This year, the adults have joined forces with the students and will be jumping with their class.  As the students know... I have a fairly competitive spirit when it comes to jump roping and hula hooping and we are really excited to try to have the most jumps in the whole school!

We're hoping for lots of extra jumping time and even some practice at home!

Happy jumping... we'll let you know how we do starting next Wednesday!

Please be on the lookout for more information about our Valentine's Day celebration which will take place Friday, February 13th.

Thanks!
