Main Idea and Key Details

Today we learned how to play Base-10 exchange.  We collect ones until we have ten, and then we exchange! Our goal was to get 10 tens, or 100!  Some first graders were having so much fun, they set a new goal of getting to 1,000!

We read about the blue whale again, but we read with a different purpose today.  Today, we read to find the main idea and four key details.  Our main idea was, "Blue Whales are Giant Mammals."  The first graders had to read through their books to find details that showed just how giant the whales are.  Ask your first grader to tell you how large the blue whale is today!


We sorted our spelling words today based on their vowel sound.  The first graders did a wonderful job looking and saying short vowels and writing them in the correct column.

We are still writing about our opinions in writing and remembering to use capitals and periods as we go!
