Time Change

What a difference the time change seems to make!  Everyone came to school so ready to learn today.

Our WOW word this week is anxious.  We had fun using that word in sentences to tell about different situations we've been in.  Some of us were anxious for hockey practice tonight.

Our new red word of the week is said.  Our word families this week are ___ig and ___id and the phonemes that we're practicing are w and z.  We realized that we confuse y and w often when we're writing!  I've sent home this week's SWR paper so you can practice at home.

In reading we are working to answer questions about texts and think about how the author/writer lets us know how a character is feeling.  Using examples from the text is really important so we've been making sure to find the sentences that show us.

We have a sightword poem of the week and seasonal poem of the week.  The first graders have asked that I send these home so they can share them with their families.  Be sure to look for them in your child's folder this afternoon.

Today we reviewed how to tell time to the half-hour.  Practice telling time on an analog clock as often as you can with your first grader.  This is such an important skill to have.

Our very first science unit this year is about solids and liquids.  Today we introduced the unit by watching a Brain Pop Jr. video.  Be sure to look for the login instructions for Brain Pop Jr.  We LOVE Brain Pop Jr!

Please be sure to sign up for next week's lunch:
